Broaden and Deepen Economic Prosperity for Maine and the Nation
To grow our economy in ways that enhances everyone’s career opportunities and overall prosperity, we need to implement a wide range of smarter investment, trade, labor, tax and wage policies. As Maine’s senator, David will support efforts to:
-
Raise the federal minimum wage to a living wage of at least $15 - $17 per hour.
-
Back unions and protect workers’ rights to organize.
-
Increase personal investment and savings incentives – retirement and non-retirement.
-
Expand the federal earned income tax credit.
-
Boost federal investments in transportation, energy, and communications infrastructure, and scientific research and development (R&D).
-
Expand small business loans and tax credits.
-
Reallocate large agri-business and fossil fuel subsidies to rural economic development and clean energy initiatives.
-
Ensure more balanced budgets, tax fairness, and adequate funding for government programs by increasing taxes on wealthy corporations and individuals.
-
Negotiate smart, fair, and comprehensive trade agreements, including establishing a global minimum corporate tax and enhanced labor and environmental protection agreements.
-
Expand sustainable community, affordable housing, and housing development tax credits, loans, and other assistance.
-
Pass comprehensive immigration reforms to secure our borders, facilitate legal immigration, and aid in resolving worker shortages.
